We are now more connected than ever before because of the Internet. It might not feel like it because we are becoming accustomed to all this technology, but at an extremely rapid rate, the technological world is increasing its power.
Soon -- realistically in the next few years -- the majority of people's homes will be connected to the Internet, along with their cars, televisions, and cell phones. All this new exciting technology brings with it an uncountable amount of business opportunities and accessibility, but this technology will be accompanied by even more security threats than what we have been experiencing, which is already a lot.
Currently, there are about 4.5 billion web pages on the Internet, which is expected to grow exponentially over the years, and security threats are at an all-time high. Web-based attacks have been increasing over the last few years, as well. Since 2013, attacks on websites have increased by 23%. That is only a three-year increase. Can you imagine what will happen in the next five to 10 years given the recent trends and projected growth of the Internet?
Some of the smartest people are working tirelessly to help solve these issues, but it's a complicated task. There has to be something done at the broader level for this protection, but responsibility has to fall on the individual as well. Doing things to ensure increased online protection for yourself and your family is very important. Consider the following:
- Dedicated Servers -- Operating on protected servers is very important for maintaining online security. You should know that nothing is ever 100% protected, but having the highest quality protective servers is obviously much better than lesser quality models.
- Connectivity Awareness -- Because we are so connected, there are even more risks than ever before. Just because you have an effective security system on your home computer doesn't mean that it's fully protected. If you're not careful on all your devices, your online security is at risk. About 48% of emails are opened on mobile devices. If one of those emails contains a hacker and is opened on your cell phone, your entire network is at risk.
- Monitor Activity -- It's crucial to be diligent while providing Internet security. Keeping tabs on all your accounts and visited websites is very important, so you can identify any security threats if you notice any wrongdoing.
This technological revolution that we are experiencing is truly amazing. We cannot take it for granted and need to spend just as much time and energy on keeping our systems secure.
